FREJA in Norway has entered into a collaboration with Color Line Cargo with fixed weekly departures using Color Line’s newest cargo ship, Color Carrier, between Oslo in Norway and Kiel in Germany and by train between Kiel and Verona in Italy.
FREJA has secured a large amount of the 30 wagons that the train will bring already at the first departure from Kiel, Sunday 6 October. An example of route with this timesaving solution is: the trailers depart from Verona on Thursdays at 22:00 and arrive with Color Carrier on Sundays in the afternoon.
“Choosing environmentally friendly solutions is becoming increasingly important for both us and our customers. The requirements, that are imposed on us as a transport partner, are to provide services which reduce the CO2 footprint of each shipment. We therefore invest considerable resources in the development of environmentally friendly transport solutions,” says Kjell-Arne Eloranta, Managing Director Norway in FREJA Transport & Logistics AS.
FREJA has used Color Line’s ship solutions between Kiel and Oslo for years with unaccompanied trailers to ensure the highest possible quality for our customers by for example pickup and delivery in Norway with Norwegian drivers. FREJA is already Color Line’s largest customer and will now invest further in the development of intermodal solutions as this new train and ship solution will reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 50% according to Color Line.
A solution with benefits
In addition to the environmental aspect by using this train and ship solution, driver shortages in Europe will not affect your shipments. Our competent partners in Norway and Italy are doing the haulage of our FREJA trailers directly from the customer’s warehouse to and from the train’s arrival-/departure terminal. We can load more gross weight per trailer, as the train can load 29 ton per trailer while on road we cannot load more than 24,5 ton. In addition, there are strict rules for driving on Sundays in Europe as well as other regulations for the time when heavy transports may drive the road.
A milestone
“The investment in a Color Line Cargo train to and from Kiel and Verona in collaboration with FREJA , among others, is a milestone in our strategy to make Europe more accessible to both our partners and customers,” says Terje Røli from Color Line Cargo.
